WARNINGS
THIS PRODUCT MUST BE INSTALLED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. BE SURE TO READ ALL
INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE BEGINNING THE INSTALLATION. DO NOT SMOKE AND DO NOT
HAVE ANY OPEN FLAME WHILE PERFORMING HIS OPERATION! FOLLOW THE
MANUFACTURER’S GUIDELINES FOR RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM
PRESSURE!
IMPORTANT
NOTES: for installations on all
engines disconnect the negative battery terminal prior to installation.
After installation reconnect the battery lead and drive the vehicle over
50 mph (80kph.) for a minimum of 20 minutes. This procedure will reset the
computer's memory on, EFI engines, to sense the treated fuel. For
diesel and all other gasoline engines, disconnecting the battery is good
safety practice.
FITTINGS AND SEALANT:
For all models use fittings
appropriate to match the fuel system on the engine. Plastic fuel lines
require compression fittings with internal reinforcements. Ensure you are
using high-pressure hose when required. Use a liquid thread sealant with
Teflon or equivalent, which is impervious to gasoline and other fuels. Do
not use tape as it could break off and enter the fuel system. The Fitch
units are equipped with the following thread sizes and adapters, other
sizes are available, contact your local tube fittings supplier.
F50, F100, F200, F300 : UNF straight
thread, 9/16-18. O.R.B.
tube adaptor to a #6 JIC 37 degree flare.
F400,
F500, F750, F1000 : UNF straight thread, 7/8-14. Male O.R.B. tube adaptors to a #10
JIC 37 degree flare
LOCATION:The proper
location of the Fitch
Fuel Catalyst unit is vital to its efficient operation. It is desirable to
locate the unit as close as possible to the injector pump or carburetor
and after the filter where possible. Be certain that the location selected
has sufficient clearance and that the fuel lines will be free from
obstruction and abrasion. Do not mount the unit closer than eight (8)
inches (200mm) to any electrical device such as alternators, generators,
or pumps as the electromagnetic field they produce can disrupt the
efficient functioning of the Fitch® unit. Do not mount the unit closer
than eight (8) inches (200mm) to any heat source such as exhaust pipes or
exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters or mufflers.
NOTE THE DIRECTION OF THE FUEL FLOW
INDICATOR ARROW ON THE UNIT. ALL UNITS MUST BE MOUNTED VERTICALLY WITH
FUEL GOING IN THE BOTTOM.
This will allow trapped air to escape and prevent air lock as
well ensure all the catalyst surface is in constant contact with fuel. The
Fitch unit should be mounted in the fuel supply line, not the return line,
on the low-pressure suction side of the fuel pump in diesel applications.
In gasoline applications the unit can be fitted before or after the fuel
pump as in many cases the fuel pump is in the tank.
All Fitch units are pressure tested and Coast Guard
accepted to 600 PSI.
CONNECTION:If existing fuel lines are too short,
additional fuel lines may be added to connect the unit in its selected
location. Be sure to use only approved fuel line materials.Caution engines with fuel injection
must use EFI rated hose only. Carefully apply the sealant to the
fittings at each end of the Fitch unit. Install the fittings to each end
of the Fitch unit and tighten. For diesel and fuel injected systems,
fill the canister with fuel after installing the inlet line, this will
prevent air from entering the system. Use the mounting clamps provided
or suitable alternatives; secure the unit in the selected location. Ensure
that the clamps are tightened. Check all fuel connections and when
satisfied start the engine and let run for several minutes while checking
carefully for any leaks.
BREAK-IN
PERIOD: The
length of this break-in period depends on the age and condition of the
engine. An engine in average condition should take approximately 500
miles, (800 kilometers) or 20 operating hours to achieve maximum benefit
from the catalyst. During the break-in period the Fitch unit will be
cleaning any excess carbon and resins from the engine and fuel system. It
is therefore possible to have higher emissions and/or fuel consumption
during this period. The cleaning out of this build up from the engine will
initially result in dirtier engine oil then normal since much of the
carbon residue cleaned from the combustion chamber ends up in the engine
oil pan. After the first oil change however, the engine oil will continue
to be much cleaner than before use of the Fitch
Fuel Catalyst due to the reduction of oil soot
contamination. SPECIAL
NOTE FOR LEADED TO UNLEADED CONVERSIONS: It
is recommended that at least 500 miles, (800 kilometers) or 10 hours be
run on leaded fuel with the Fitch installed before converting to unleaded
fuel. SPECIAL
NOTE FOR CARBURETED ENGINES: For
maximum performance of the Fitch this engine type should be adjusted after
2000 miles, (3400 kilometers).CAUTIONS: Before installation of the Fitch unit
the vehicle should be checked to ensure that it is in good running
condition, as it will not compensate for existing electrical or mechanical
defects. Do not change from one grade of fuel to another if you wish to
evaluate before and after mileage and emissions performance. After the
break in period, it is acceptable to evaluate your vehicle with lower
octane fuel.Many
users experience additional savings with no loss in performance. Reminder: If the oxygen sensor in engines with
electronic fuel management systems is coated with carbon, results with the
use of the Fitch may be limited. If this is the case the oxygen sensor
should be checked and either cleaned or replaced.
The
Fitch
Fuel Catalyst will need to be replaced after 250,000 miles (400,000
kilometers), 5,000 hours or whichever comes first. The
Fitch Fuel Catalyst is recyclable and should be returned to your local
distributor upon replacement. Do not dispose of it in the
garbage.
RIGHT OF RETURN, REFUND AND
WARRANTYThe
Fitch Fuel Catalyst has a ninety (90)
day money back
guarantee provided the installation instructions were followed and the
return of the product is based either on product defect or dissatisfaction
with the performance. The
Fitch
Fuel Catalyst device is guaranteed to be free from defects in material and
workmanship for a period of 250,000 miles (400,000 kilometers) (defined by
EPA in 40 CFR 85.117), or 5,000 hours from the date of installation.
Manufacturer reserves the right to repair or replace any failed or
defective device. This warranty does not cover damages resulting from
collision, abuse, and improper installation. Return the defective device
along with dated proof of purchase to the distributor from which the
device was purchased so that the distributor may handle your warranty
claim in an expeditious manner. The manufacturer warrants that the
installation of the Fitch
Fuel Catalyst on a vehicle will not cause the emissions noncompliance of
the engine on which it is installed for the life of the catalyst from the
date of installation.
